The boat is sitting in her slip for a change, not out playing with the wind. Everything is cleaned and stowed so winter must be over. The Jeep is sitting with the top off in the parking lot….must be time to enjoy the summer. It’s going to rain this week but I don’t care, it is off sailing again.
08:45 Underway to Baltimore Inner Harbor (Lil Havana) to meet friends for brunch. Sailing on main and jib at 2 knots, with 3.5 knots over the deck. 09:40 Front approaching from the north wind increasing wind speed of 18-20, wind shifting to the North West, and reefed jib to one reef.
09:50 Reef jib fully wind now at 25, still shifting to the north, started tacking on main alone. 10:10 Start engine, and reefed main fully, with wind directly on the bow and coming from my “Destination”.
10:25 Wind 35 with waves in channel starting to build. Taking spray over the foredeck and waves occasionally breaking over the bow. 10:35 Wave still building, wind constant at 35 as front moves in, taking spray over the dodger, increase rpm to make Fort Mc Henry and lee shore protection.
10:55 in the channel to inner harbor, wind and wave subside. 11:15 docked port side too Slip J-09 Harbor View. Dock master ask if I will carry a banner to Rusty Scupper. Seems someone is fool enough to ask for his fiancé to marry him, and has a banner to announce it! I go to Lil Havana and tell my friends I will be late, get 3 volunteers to help with the banner.
11:45 Depart Harbor View with 2 four by eight sheets of plywood painted with “Will You Marry Me” and a big heart. Run around the corner and make a slow run in front of the “Rusty Scupper”. All is well as the family comes down and gets the plywood and we return to Lil Havana’s. 12:20 Moored port side to slip j-09 at Harborview.
14:00 Guests onboard to watch the remainder of the Ravens game and enjoy the “Captains Liquor Locker” 15:45 Guests depart, clean ship and prepare to get underway.
16:10 Underway on Jib headed south. 18:30 started the engine and furled the jib, making 3 knots south to MYC.
19:50 Moored back at MYC, secured ship.
15:30 Underway for Wednesday Night “Rocks Run”….a slow sail out to the key bridge and around white rocks.
Call it stress relief
20:00 At MYC in the slip.
