Opening weekend

by @ 10:10 pm. Filed under The Wind

As I shift and shutter, spin and turn through the restless cloudy sky above this bustle of the day, I see preparations being made in brilliant blues and clean white. Greek flags are raised, spirits are high, and my presence is not noted for good sailing weather as usual, but for my assistance in helping the grand stage become aflutter.  Music in the air, the sun occasionally streaming through the clouds to warm the bodies of those who I gently touch throughout the marina. Happy times are those when friends have arrived and another year is about to begin in my favorite new season.

As always, I drift amid the scene and observe. As the day continues on, more and more decorations come about-fruits, masses of grapevines intertwined in the lines, wine to soon wet the sailor’s dry lips, even some lifeless greeks of stores past!  How I smile when I know that I have seen it all from the beginning and how the interpretations do play out now.  Creativity takes the lead, with the help of good humor, fun and drink.  As the evening falls, even small lights begin to appear, and the club springs to live with dance music. Increased laughter of princesses dancing the night away, and out on the patio, a sailor commands an audience of peers with plans for the future. I stay, lazily gliding around this conversation, captivated by the strength in his voice, and assurance that he posesses of being correct. He never falters. One who has it all figured out, and if not, would you be the one to question?

After conversations have convinced and the night continues on, paths are made to the vessels with smiles on faces of a great day gone and the anticipation of another on the horizon. I guide them all in, streaming along, coerce a shiver from a girl who has a kiss stolen on the way to the boat, and watch her grin with a twinkle in her eye. I fall out once more to the greater seas, to return when invitations sound.
